The lodge was consecrated on 31st March 1987.

 

It was the wish of the founders, all of whom were serving or ex-members of the RAF, to continue the fellowship which they had enjoyed during their service days. They also wished to extend that fellowship to those Initiates who perhaps because of age missed the opportunity of serving their country. At the same time, they wished to honour and perpetuate the memory of those Airmen who made the supreme sacrifice. The word Adastral is an abbreviation of the Royal Air Force Motto ‘PerArdua Ad Astra", which translated from the Latin means "Through Hardship to the Stars". The founders included one member of the Royal Flying Corps, nine who had seen active service with the RAF during the Second World War, and the remainder who had completed their national service. At every installation meeting, the lodge's festive board takes the form of an air crew breakfast, i.e. bacon and eggs.
