The Lodge was founded almost entirely by the past masters and members of the Theobalds Lodge No. 4726 a lodge with many members at the time, and Churchgate Lodge was consecrated on 4th November, 1953. 

 

The church of St Mary is situated in the historical part of Cheshunt and is shown on the banner with its most impressive and ornate gates guarding the entrance. The Latin motto “Esto Perpetum” means “Let it be forever” or ‘May you live forever’. 

 

The banner was donated by Bro.J.E.Jones and dedicated on 24th February 1975.
