Banners of Craft Lodges in Hertfordshire (Continued)

Joseph Moffett Lodge No: 8086

The lodge was consecrated on 15th April 1966, having been sponsored by Welwyn Garden City Lodge No: 5748. The banner was presented by the members and was made by Miss Helen Robinson and dedicated 22nd April 1987.  The original emblem was designed by Bro. Peter Brown.  The banner depicts the lodge emblem standing on a tessellated pavement In the foreground is an open book inscribed with the names of the founders and flanked by two further pillars. The names of the first twenty-one Masters of the Lodge are recorded on the ribbons hung on either side of the main banner and the names of subsequent Masters are to be added each year.

The banner portrays the cross of St Andrew above a stained glass window impressed with a Hart.  The cross adorned R.W. Bro. Joseph Moffett’s own banner, he being a minister of the Church of Scotland, and the window represented his church in Covent Garden, whilst the Hart is symbolic of Hertfordshire.  The two pair of compasses form the letter ‘M’ for Moffett.

This lodge is now closed and the banner is stored at Fleet House.
