Old Hertfordian Lodge No: 8083

The lodge was formulated during 1965 by former pupils of Hertford Grammar School, being Members of the Old Hertfordian Association. The Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Col. Alexander Woods, MBE performed the consecration ceremony at Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury on 22nd March 1966.

The banner and school crest is taken from the family arms of Richard Hale Sherriff of Hertfordshire who in 1631 endowed the school. It has the old Hale school of 1614 in the background and a ‘Chevron Engrailed Or’ over the Hart of Hertfordshire in water. The motto is ‘Doctrina Cum Virtute’ or ‘Learning with Manliness’ or ‘Learning with Virtue’. The banner was dedicated 18th November 1975.  It was hand made by Mrs M.Service and is said to have taken four years to make.
