Banners of Craft Lodges in Hertfordshire (Continued)

Aldenham Lodge No: 8253

The Lodge was consecrated at Ashwell House, St. Albans on 22nd November, 1968 by RW Bro Col. Alexander Woods, the Provincial Grand Master. Elstree and Radlett Lodges had such a large membership that some of the members decided to become founders of Aldenham Lodge so they could progress through the various lodge offices quicker than waiting for years in their respective lodges.

The banner was presented by W.Bro KC Butcher in memory of his father Bro W.J. (Bill) Butcher and the crest depicts the church of St. John the Baptist, Aldenham which most of the founders used to attend on Sundays. This church dates from the 13th century and the Reverend Canon Frederick Hart allowed the church to be shown on the Crest. The three battle axes are said to have been taken from the coat of arms of Lord Aldenham; they are also shown on the crest of Aldenham school.
