At a meeting in Hitchin Conservative Club, the founders were able to persuade the Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W Bro G B W Kent, TD that despite the cluster of lodges in this geographical area, there was a need for a Saturday lodge to cater for residents of Hertford who commuted to London and who wished to establish masonic roots in the county. 

 

Accordingly, the Codicote Lodge was consecrated on 1st December 1984 the name having been chosen by a former resident because of its historic significance as the village of the same name can trace its history back to the end of the 9th century. Saturday meetings were preferred by some who lived and worked locally and this helped gain the lodge initial momentum. Allegedly the coat of arms was derived from that of Codicote town.
