Banners of Craft Lodges in Hertfordshire (Continued)

Isambard Brunel Lodge No: 8908

The lodge was consecrated on 26th November, 1979. The banner depicts a portrait of Isambard Kingdom Brunel together with illustrations of his work, notably the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Box Tunnel and two of the ships that he built (possibly the SS Great Britain and the SS Great Eastern - they being his two most famous maritime vessels).

These features are supported by pictorial illustrations of the Volume of the Sacred Law, the ‘All Seeing Eye’ and the Square and Compasses.  The dark blue colouring of the body of the banner is enhanced by red lettering on a gold scroll and tasseling.  The original work and professional skills of W.Bro E.R.J.Askew  [the first Initiate] completed the banner which was dedicated on 15th May 1989.
