Mimram Lodge No: 4818
Mimram Lodge was the first lodge to be consecrated in the Welwyn Garden City area, on 20th March, 1926.
Its’ founders, including Sir Theodore Chambers, a close colleague of the town's founder, Sir Ebenezer Howard, decided to name the new Lodge after the river Mimram which flowed under the great Victorian railway viaduct which spans the Mimram valley.

The idea for a Lodge Banner was first suggested by Bro. Bryan Milton who had offered to embroider the banner, and preliminary sketches and coloured working drawings were produced by W.Bro. Colin Childs. Work commenced in 1981, and by July 1983 progress was deemed sufficient enough to set a preliminary date of December 1984 for the Banner Dedication Meeting.

A rehearsal of the Banner Dedication Ceremony took place at The Cloisters, Letchworth on Wednesday 5th December 1984, and having proved successful, the actual banner dedication ceremony was conducted on Tuesday 11th December by W.Bro.G.B.W.Kent, TD, then an Assistant Provincial Grand Master. He was assisted by the Provincial Grand Chaplain, W.Bro. The Rev. Dr.R.L.MacQueen, TD, Past Assistant Grand Chaplain, who gave the Address and the Patriarchal Benediction, and W.Bro.R.Heskell, PAGDC, Deputy Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies. Ceremonial Music was under the direction of W. Bro. R. Hughes, MBE, PPSGD. The meeting took place in front of 36 officers and brethren plus a total of 48 visitors, and the oration was given by Bro.MacQueen who commented on the design and execution and thanked W.Bro. Milton the then Worshipful Master for the many hours of work performed over a 2-3 year period in the embroidering of it.
